Greece
Greece lets students read ancient, Byzantine and modern history in a single landscape of islands, mountains and coast. It is a strong fit for courses in history, philosophy, archaeology and cultural studies.
Overview
Greece as a classroom
Greece is where much of Western political thought, philosophy, drama and science took shape, and the sites of that history are still visible in Athens, Delphi and Olympia. Byzantine churches and monasteries, Ottoman-era quarters and a modern republic add further layers. Students learn how archaeology, national identity and tourism interact, and how an economy built on shipping, agriculture and travel responds to crisis. The same landscape is useful for study in geography and the environment.
ARAMFO has run faculty development seminars on the cultural and historical aspects of Italy and Greece from an architecture, art and history perspective, and offers student programs across Greece and the wider Balkans. Every faculty-led course is customized to the professor's syllabus and travel dates.
